Home Education Days
Book onto our Home Educational Days at Stump Cross Caverns!
Tickets are £12.50 for both adults and children attending, babies in arms not taking part in the activities are free
We have been asked many times to do Home Educational Days,so we have listened and are happy to help! The goal of Home Educational Days are to connect young people to the natural wonders of this magnificent Show Cave. These days are a fantastic way to get groups learning outside of the classroom in a new, engaging environment. This day gives Home Educated children the opportunity to enjoy a day of exciting and exclusive learning activities and workshops. We hope to inspire students, encouraging pupils to have a positive attitude towards their studies. The caves are a constant temperature of 7 degrees so dress warmly. Steps and walkways will be damp, so waterproof boots or wellies make ideal footwear for your visit. The day will start at 10.30am. On arrival we will all meet in the Crystal Cave Shop to check in. Once checked in we will go through into the cinema and have a brief welcome chat. We will then watch the new film about the history and health and safety of Stump Cross Caverns followed by a guided tour of the caves where you will have talks at various points throughout the caves. We will stop at the Cathedral Cave, Cavewoman Corner and Reindeer Caverns. On return to the Cinema we will then break for lunch at around 12pm. You may bring a pack up to eat in the Cinema or outside. Alternatively you can purchase food from our Time Cafe. Please note we cannot accommodate picnics in the cafe as we are open to the public.
We will regroup in the Cinema room at 1pm to take part in one of our Fossil Digs. Here we will re-cap on what Caves are and what they are made up from and look into what’s lurking in the Limestone Rock! You will Embark on a prehistoric adventure. Marvel at our remarkable collection of fossils and gems, unearthed from the depths of time. These interactive, educational sessions are designed to ignite curiosity and spark fascination while weaving tales of Earth's extraordinary past. The Children will then be given a small organza bag and be able to choose between fossils/gems/mineral to take home with them along with a little fossil book for identification. This workshop will finish at 2pm. You are very welcome to revisit the caves on a self-guided tour with a UV torch which reveals fluorescent calcite veins in the rock. In this eerie purple light, the caves seem more enchanted than ever. All you need to do is let us know and one of our team will give you a torch so you can head down on an adventure that keeps giving! You have already had your health and safety briefing earlier so you can just go and enjoy yourselves!
