Home Education Space
We have been asked many times to do Home Educational Days, so we have listened and are happy to help! The goal of Home Educational Days is to connect young people to the natural wonders of this magnificent Show Cave. These days are a fantastic way to get groups learning outside of the classroom in a new, engaging environment. Aimed at young learners, this day gives Home Educated children the opportunity to enjoy a day of exciting and exclusive learning activities and workshops. We hope to inspire students, encouraging them to have a positive attitude toward their studies.
The caves are a constant temperature of 7 degrees, so dress warmly. Steps and walkways will be damp, so waterproof boots or wellies make ideal footwear for your visit.
The day will start at 10:30 am. On arrival, we will meet in the Crystal Cave Shop to check in. Once checked in, we will head into the cinema for a brief welcome chat. We will then watch the new film about the history and health and safety of Stump Cross Caverns, followed by a guided tour of the caves. Throughout the tour, we will pause at key locations such as the Cathedral Cave, Cavewoman Corner, and Reindeer Caverns for fascinating talks.
At around 12:00 pm, we will break for lunch. You may bring a packed lunch to eat in the cinema or outside. Alternatively, food can be purchased from our Time Café. Please note that picnics cannot be accommodated in the café as it is open to the public.
We will regroup in the cinema room at 1:00 pm for our Cosmic Adventures workshop. During this hour-long session, we will explore the wonders of space in a fun and interactive way. Children will learn about planets, stars, and constellations while crafting their own planets out of clay and building constellations using pipe cleaners. This engaging activity is designed to inspire curiosity about the cosmos and ignite imaginations. Each child will leave with their cosmic creations as a keepsake from the day!
The workshop will finish at 2:00 pm. Afterward, you are welcome to revisit the caves on a self-guided tour with a UV torch, revealing fluorescent calcite veins in the rock. In this magical purple light, the caves take on an even more enchanting atmosphere. Simply let us know, and one of our team will provide you with a torch for an unforgettable adventure!
