Book your place on our Home Education Days at Stump Cross Caverns!

Due to popular demand, we’re delighted to introduce dedicated Home Education Days—designed especially for home-educated children and young learners. These unique experiences aim to connect students with the natural wonders of our magnificent show cave, offering an engaging and memorable way to learn beyond the classroom.

Each day is packed with exclusive activities and workshops that encourage curiosity, exploration, and a positive attitude toward learning. It’s the perfect opportunity for children to discover, ask questions, and be inspired in a truly unforgettable setting.

What to expect on the day:

Your visit begins at 10:30am, where we’ll meet in the Crystal Cave Shop for check-in. From there, we’ll head into the cinema room for a short welcome talk, followed by a film covering the history of the caverns and important health and safety information.

Next, you’ll enjoy a guided tour through the caves, with informative talks at key points including Cathedral Cave, Cavewoman Corner, and Reindeer Caverns.

At around 12:00pm, we’ll return to the cinema for a lunch break. You’re welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy either in the cinema or outdoors. Alternatively, food is available to purchase from the Time Café (please note that picnics cannot be eaten inside the café).

At 1:00pm, we’ll regroup for an exciting Fossil Dig workshop. During this interactive session, children will recap what caves are and how they form, before exploring the fascinating world hidden within limestone rock. They’ll uncover fossils and gems, hear stories from Earth’s ancient past, and take part in hands-on discovery. Each child will receive a small organza bag to collect their chosen fossils, gems, or minerals to take home.

The workshop concludes at 2:00pm, after which you’re welcome to revisit the caves on a self-guided tour. Using a UV torch (provided by our team), you’ll discover glowing calcite veins that transform the caves into a magical, otherworldly experience.

Important information:

  • The caves maintain a constant temperature of 7°C, so warm clothing is essential.
  • Paths and steps can be damp, so waterproof footwear or wellies are highly recommended.

We look forward to welcoming you for a day of discovery, adventure, and hands-on learning in one of nature’s most fascinating environments!
